![]() ![]() It was a stark contrast from the first meeting between the two schools this weekend when UC Davis jumped out to a 7-1 lead only to have to hang on for an 8-7 win as the Pilots scored twice in the ninth and left the tying run on base. The Aggies, who reached double-digit hits for the third-consecutive game, struck early and often against the Portland pitching staff, scoring seven times in the first three innings to jump out to the early advantage and cruise from there. Junior Kurt Yinger (0-1) - the first of five Pilot pitchers on the day - suffered the loss, charged with seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits in just 2 1/3 innings. Freshman Zach Stone earned his first career save, scattering just two hits and striking out four over the final 3 2/3 innings to close out the contest. The offensive outburst was more than enough for starter Max Cordy (1-0), as the sophomore right-hander allowed just two runs on six hits while striking out five in 5 1/3 innings of work. Portland fell to 3-4 overall and finished 1-3 in tournament play.
